Overcoming the subterranean wards, Matanga wins the underworld throne, gifting Rajavahana the miraculous hunger-dispelling Chintamani gem. Returning to the surface, Rajavahana finds the campsite abandoned—his nine companion princes have scattered across ancient Bharat in disguise to track him down! In the lonely woods, Rajavahana reunites with Pushpodbhava, setting the stage for the first undercover tale of Ujjayini.
