The Market of Kashi & The Gift of Cloth
The Master Boy at the Loom
By age eight, child Kabir sat independently at the large wooden handloom. His small hands moved the flying shuttle with such effortless rhythm and grace as though he were the eternal Master Weaver of all creations.

Fine white threads intertwined with perfection, producing an exceptionally soft, spotless roll of pure white cloth resembling condensed moonlight.

Neeru and Neema stood in wonder beside the loom. Even the most renowned master weavers of Varanasi had never woven fabric of such ethereal purity.

Father, this handloom is not merely for sustenance; every thread is a prayer of love to the Supreme Weaver of the cosmos.
Poverty & The Market Mission
Biting winter winds swept through Varanasi. Severe poverty struck the weaver household; every earthen grain jar in the kitchen stood empty, without a handful of flour for dinner.

Neeru rolled up the fine white cloth, gently resting it upon eight-year-old Kabir's shoulder to sell in the central bazaar.

Son Kabir! Take this to Kashi Chowk bazaar. Sell it to an honest merchant for at least five silver coins, so we may purchase wheat and lentils for our meals.

With the pristine white cloth balanced gracefully on his small shoulder, child Kabir walked serenely through the stone-paved alleys toward the bustling central market.
The Marketplace & The Gift of Cloth
The historic Kashi Chowk marketplace buzzed with intense trade. Merchants in silk turbans, spice stalls, and brassware shops lined the bustling sunlit square.

Young Kabir sat peacefully upon a stone platform. Greedy merchants marveled at the cloth's rare perfection, yet sought to swindle the young boy for mere pennies.

Just then, an elderly, destitute beggar approached in tattered burlap rags, teeth chattering violently in the freezing winter wind, begging for covering.
O child! This bitter cold is taking my very life... No one will spare a rag to cover my shivering chest... Have mercy upon me!

Hearing the old man's plea, child Kabir's heart melted with boundless compassion. Without a second's hesitation, he tore the priceless roll of cloth in half with a firm pull!

Child Kabir tenderly draped the large, warm white fabric around the weeping old man's shoulders, bringing warmth and life back to his frozen limbs.

Moments later, another shivering homeless traveler approached. Kabir joyfully handed over the remaining half of the cloth, leaving himself completely empty-handed!
Total Surrender & Parental Anguish
Having given away everything, child Kabir sat serenely in deep meditation beneath an ancient banyan tree on the banks of the sacred Ganga, immersed in total surrender to God.

Meanwhile, night fell over the weaver quarter. When Kabir did not return, Neeru paced the floor in rising torment.
Neema! Darkness has fallen and Kabir has not returned! What if dishonest swindlers in the market harmed our innocent child?!

O Lord Almighty! I care not for food or cloth! Just bring my precious child Kabir safely back to my arms!

Under the glowing moonlit sky, child Kabir walked peacefully toward home, his countenance radiating quiet confidence and grace.
The Miracle of the Unknown Merchant
Suddenly, a loud knock rattled the wooden gate! Opening the door, Neeru saw a grand merchant in rich silk robes with pack-bullocks loaded high with towering sacks of grain!

Is this the home of weaver Neeru? A radiant, divine boy in the market paid gold coins in advance, ordering all these sacks of wheat, fine rice, lentils, and pure ghee delivered to your door!

As young Kabir stepped into the courtyard, Neeru and Neema realized that the child who gave away their only cloth was Himself the Master of the Cosmos who feeds all living beings.

The wondrous market charity was fulfilled! Now young Kabir encounters the proud scholars and Brahmins of Varanasi on the holy Ganga ghats, unveiling the eternal secret of the true inner *Janeu*. Find out in the next chapter—**The Dialogue of the Sacred Thread
