The Diamond Veil Clasp & The Seventeenth Night
On the seventeenth twilight, the matchmaker slipped into the mansion bearing an ornate diamond-studded gold veil clasp sent by Prince Gunashali.
See these dazzling diamonds, fair lady! The prince has prepared a private feast for your arrival!

Draped in turquoise and silver silk with heavy gold zari borders, Prabhavati fastened the diamond clasp onto her veil by candlelight, smiling at her reflection.
Tonight, my steps shall not falter! I shall step through the courtyard doors!

She adjusted her sheer veil and walked with swift, resolute steps toward the mansion gate.

Shuka
From his high golden swing, Shuka bowed with dazzling courtly elegance.
May auspicious stars guide your journey, Queen of Charm! The midnight air is fragrant! But tell me...

Prabhavati paused on the threshold, raising an amused eyebrow.
What fresh mystery do you bring tonight on this seventeenth night, O wise Shuka?

Shuka looked deep into her eyes, his ruby beak glinting in the lantern glow:
Go with joy, fair lady! But if a phantom thief steals inside your locked chambers tonight, do you possess the psychological detection of Minister Buddhiraja when the Queen's diamond choker vanished from a locked guarded bedroom?
A locked bedroom with no broken latch?! How did the thief steal the choker, and how was he caught?!

The Locked Room Mystery & The Missing Choker
"Hear the forensic mastery of truth!" began Shuka. In the kingdom of Kanyakubja, Queen Charumati's priceless diamond choker vanished from her dressing table inside a locked bedroom with two royal guards standing at the only door!

The furious King threatened to execute the guards, but wise Minister Buddhiraja examined the locked doors, unbroken stone jali screens, and a floor-length bronze mirror.

Looking up, Buddhiraja noticed fine black soot and velvet rope friction marks on the carved bracket of the high ceiling fan! *'The thief slid down from the roof!'*

The Contact-Poison Bluff & The Indigo Basin
In court, Buddhiraja announced with solemn dread: *"The Queen's diamond choker was coated with a deadly contact herb! Whoever touched it will break out in green boils by midnight unless they wash their hands in this sanctified sandalwood basin!"*

Buddhiraja secretly mixed concentrated, colourless indigo dye into a large bronze water basin placed in the dim palace hallway.

All palace attendants, acrobats, and guards were ordered to wash their hands in the basin before entering the royal prayer hall.

The Guilty Acrobat & The Glowing Blue Hands
In the dim hallway, the guilty palace acrobat—who had slid down the ceiling rope to steal the choker—nervously scrubbed his hands three times in the water to wash away the 'deadly poison'!

The suspects filed into the brightly lit prayer hall, holding up their hands before the King and royal judges.

Under the blazing torches, eleven men showed clean hands—while the acrobat's hands glowed **BRIGHT DEEP BLUE** from the oxidized indigo dye!

The Stolen Choker Recovered & The Triumph of Wisdom
Guards seized the trembling acrobat, searching his silk waist sash and pulling out Queen Charumati's sparkling diamond choker!

The acrobat confessed how he climbed the ceiling rope. The innocent guards were released and embraced by the remorseful King.

The King honored Minister Buddhiraja with chests of gold and royal robes for using psychological insight over violence!

The Seventeenth Dawn in Chandravati
Back on the moonlit balcony of Chandravati, Shuka concluded the tale with piercing moral clarity under the starlight.

Prabhavati sat on the velvet bolsters, marveling at how the thief's own panic dyed his hands with guilt.
What brilliant strategy! The thief's fear of poison made him dye his own hands blue with guilt!

Shuka delivered his seventeenth decisive riddle:
Now tell me, Prabhavati—is it wiser to think locked doors protect a secret, or remember that guilty fear always dyes our actions before the world?

Prabhavati sat in deep contemplation, realizing that no locked door can hide infidelity from the light of truth.

As the lesson sank into her soul, golden dawn sunlight flooded the Chandravati skyline! The temple conches sounded across the city. The seventeenth night had passed!

Smiling with profound reverence, Prabhavati unclasped the diamond veil clasp, placed it beside Shuka's golden swing, and returned peacefully to her bedchamber—her virtue and household saved for the seventeenth night!
You have guarded my conscience once again, wise Shuka. Rest peacefully, and tonight I shall return for your eighteenth tale!
Rest well, noble Mistress. When dusk falls, the eighteenth enigma—the Grand Season Finale—shall awaken!
