The Carnelian Waist Chain & The Fifty-Eighth Night
On the fifty-eighth twilight, a messenger arrived with an exquisite gold waist chain set with carved carnelian seals sent to Prabhavati.
See the fiery glow of these carnelian gems, fair lady! Tonight's lakeside terrace banquet awaits your steps!

Draped in saffron-and-terracotta silk with heavy gold zari borders, Prabhavati fastened the chain around her waist by candlelight, admiring her reflection.
Tonight, my courage shall guide me! I shall attend the terrace banquet!

She adjusted her sheer veil and walked with swift, eager steps toward the mansion gate.

Shuka
From his high golden swing, Shuka bowed with dazzling courtly elegance.
May auspicious stars illuminate your footsteps, Queen of Charm! The midnight air is cool! But tell me...

Prabhavati paused on the threshold, raising an amused eyebrow.
What fresh enigma do you bring tonight on this fifty-eighth night, O wise Shuka?

Shuka looked deep into her eyes, his ruby beak glinting in the lantern glow:
Go with joy, fair lady! But do you possess the unshakeable honesty and legal discernment of Farmer Dharmaketu when he bought a barren field and discovered an ancient buried copper pot with five hundred gold coins, insisting on returning the treasure to the previous owner?
A farmer insisting on returning buried gold found on his own land?! How did the King resolve a dispute where both the buyer and seller refused to keep the treasure?!

The Buried Copper Pot & The Righteous Dispute
"Hear the masterclass of selfless honesty multiplying eternal wealth!" began Shuka. In ancient Magadha, honest farmer Dharmaketu bought a dry rocky field from poor neighbor Somadatta for ten silver coins.

While plowing deep through the boulders, Dharmaketu’s plow struck a heavy copper pot containing five hundred gold coins and inscribed copper plates!

Dharmaketu immediately carried the copper pot to Somadatta: *"I bought only the topsoil for planting grain, brother; the hidden treasure belongs to your ancestors!"*

The Courtroom of Righteousness
Somadatta refused the gold with equal righteousness: *"I sold the land and everything within its boundaries; the treasure belongs to your good fortune!"*

Before King Somavarma, both farmers argued passionately to give the five hundred gold coins to the other!
I have taken my ten silver coins; the earth's fruit belongs to the buyer!

King Somavarma and his ministers sat astonished: *"In all of history, men fight wars to steal gold, but these two righteous men fight to give it away!"*

The Inscribed Copper Plate & The Sacred Reservoir
The King examined the ancient inscribed copper plate charter (*Tamra-Shasana*): it revealed the land had been dedicated centuries ago for public water reservoirs.

The King decreed the perfect righteous solution: Dharmaketu’s virtuous son would marry Somadatta’s devoted daughter, uniting both households in blessed harmony!

The five hundred gold coins were used to construct a magnificent stone stepwell (*Vapi*) and irrigation canal connecting ten farming villages!

The Village Prosperity & The Pillars of Dharma
The grand stone stepwell overflowed with sweet cooling water as joyful farming families celebrated golden wheat and rice harvests across ten villages!

The King honored both farmers with royal silver garlands, proclaiming them True Pillars of Righteousness.

The King proclaimed: *"Greed poisons the soil and breeds war, but mutual honesty and generosity turn barren stones into eternal rivers of prosperity!"*
Honesty is the true inexhaustible reservoir of life!

The Fifty-Eighth Dawn in Chandravati
Back on the moonlit balcony of Chandravati, Shuka concluded the tale with piercing moral clarity under the starlight.

Prabhavati sat on the velvet bolsters, marveling at how mutual honesty and generosity create eternal wealth, while selfish greed destroys all peace.
How profound! Mutual honesty and generosity create eternal wealth, while selfish greed destroys all peace!

Shuka delivered his fifty-eighth decisive riddle:
Now tell me, Prabhavati—is it wiser to chase the fleeting gold of selfish temptations, or anchor your heart in the eternal wealth of honest duty and sacred vows?

Prabhavati sat in serene contemplation, realizing that fidelity and integrity are the true inexhaustible treasures of her home and lineage.

As the lesson illuminated her soul, golden dawn sunlight flooded the Chandravati skyline! The temple conches sounded across the city. The fifty-eighth night had passed!

Smiling with deep reverence, Prabhavati unclasped the carnelian waist chain, placed sweet almonds before Shuka's golden swing, and returned peacefully to her bedchamber—her virtue and household protected for the fifty-eighth night!
You have shown me that honest duty and fidelity are the true eternal wealth, wise Shuka. Rest peacefully, and tonight I shall return for your fifty-ninth tale!
Rest well, noble Mistress. When dusk falls, the fifty-ninth enigma shall awaken!
