On the thirtieth twilight, a messenger brought an exquisite emerald-and-gold waistband (*kamarband*) sent to Prabhavati.

Draped in emerald-green and gold silk with heavy gold zari borders, Prabhavati fastened the waistband by candlelight, admiring her reflection.

From his high golden swing, Shuka bowed with dazzling courtly elegance.

Prabhavati paused on the threshold, raising an amused eyebrow.
