The Diamond Brooch & The Thirty-Fourth Night
On the thirty-fourth twilight, a messenger arrived with an exquisite diamond-studded gold hair brooch sent to Prabhavati.
See these dazzling diamonds, fair lady! Tonight's temple dance festival awaits your footsteps!

Draped in emerald-green and silver silk with heavy gold zari borders, Prabhavati pinned the diamond brooch into her hair by candlelight, admiring her reflection.
Tonight, my steps shall be swift! I shall attend the temple dance!

She adjusted her sheer veil and walked with swift, eager steps toward the mansion gate.

Shuka
From his high golden swing, Shuka bowed with dazzling courtly elegance.
May auspicious stars illuminate your path, Queen of Charm! The evening breeze is fragrant! But tell me...

Prabhavati paused on the threshold, raising an amused eyebrow.
What fresh enigma do you bring tonight on this thirty-fourth night, O wise Shuka?

Shuka looked deep into her eyes, his ruby beak glinting in the lantern glow:
Go with joy, fair lady! But do you possess the profound spiritual discernment of Sage Shanti-Deva when an ascetic spent twenty years in penance to walk on water, only to be questioned by a river boatman who charged two cowrie shells?
Twenty years of harsh penance worth only two cowrie shells?! What was the boatman's divine riddle?!

The Water-Walking Ascetic on the Ganga
"Hear the sublime parable of true spiritual merit!" began Shuka. On the holy river Ganga in ancient Varanasi, ascetic Tapasvi demonstrated his mystic power by walking across the surface of the river before a gasping crowd!

Full of spiritual pride, the ascetic approached humble boatman Kevata, boasting: *"Behold my supreme power! Twenty years of harsh Himalayan penance allowed me to walk upon water!"*
Can your humble wooden boat match my twenty years of mystic penance?!

Humble boatman Kevata sat peacefully by his oars, smiling with serene, divine understanding.

The Boatman
Kevata bowed respectfully: *"Reverend Swamiji! For twenty years you stood on one leg in freezing snow. Tell me, how much does my wooden boat charge to carry a pilgrim across this river?"*

The ascetic replied proudly: *"Two small cowrie shells (*Dve Varddaki*)!"*

Kevata spoke with sublime clarity: *"Then, noble master, your twenty years of proud penance are worth **EXACTLY TWO COWRIE SHELLS!**"*
You spent twenty years of life to save two cowries of boat fare!

The Value of Selfless Service (Seva)
Kevata continued: *"If those twenty years had been spent feeding starving orphans, tending the sick, and comforting broken hearts, your spiritual merit would have been infinite before Bhagavan!"*

The boatman's words struck the ascetic's heart like a bolt of divine lightning! The heavy mirror of spiritual ego and vanity shattered completely!

Weeping in deep remorse and spiritual awakening, the ascetic cast down his tiger skin, falling to his knees upon the riverbank sand.
You are my true guru, humble boatman! My pride was blindness!

The True Yoga of Humble Service
The transformed ascetic embraced the humble boatman, dedicating the rest of his life to serving the poor, feeding the hungry, and sheltering travelers.

The crowd of pilgrims joined hands in devotion, celebrating that humble love, fidelity, and selfless duty surpass all miraculous displays!

Golden evening light set over the sacred Ganga, establishing that fulfilling one's daily dharma with love is the highest spiritual yoga!

The Thirty-Fourth Dawn in Chandravati
Back on the moonlit balcony of Chandravati, Shuka concluded the tale with piercing moral clarity under the starlight.

Prabhavati sat on the velvet bolsters, marveling at how proud spiritual displays are worth two cowries, while humble duty, love, and fidelity are priceless before the divine.
How profound! Proud spiritual displays are worth two cowries, while humble duty, love, and fidelity are priceless before God!

Shuka delivered his thirty-fourth decisive riddle:
Now tell me, Prabhavati—is it wiser to chase proud, vain wanderlust, or find supreme divinity in the faithful service of your household and dharma?

Prabhavati sat in quiet introspection, realizing that performing her sacred duty and preserving her fidelity is the highest yoga in the eyes of Bhagavan.

As the lesson illuminated her soul, golden dawn sunlight flooded the Chandravati skyline! The temple conches sounded across the city. The thirty-fourth night had passed!

Smiling with deep reverence, Prabhavati unclasped the diamond brooch, placed sweet almonds before Shuka's golden swing, and returned peacefully to her bedchamber—her virtue and household protected for the thirty-fourth night!
You have shown me that humble service is true yoga, wise Shuka. Rest peacefully, and tonight I shall return for your thirty-fifth tale!
Rest well, noble Mistress. When dusk falls, the thirty-fifth enigma shall awaken!
