The Sixth Night: King Vikramasena & The Laughing Dead Fish
The Musk Perfume & The Sixth Night
On the sixth evening, the matchmaker slipped onto the veranda carrying a crystal vial of rare Himalayan musk perfume sent by Prince Gunashali.
Inhale this divine musk, fair Prabhavati! The prince has scented the garden pavilion with rose water for your arrival!

Draped in royal purple silk with gleaming gold borders, Prabhavati dabbed the intoxicating perfume onto her wrists, her senses captivated by romantic allure.
Tonight, my resolve is iron! I shall step into the moonlit gardens!

Holding her silk veil, she walked with swift, resolute steps toward the mansion gate.
Shuka
From his golden perch above the archway, Shuka bowed with exquisite courtly charm.
May the stars smile upon your journey, Queen of Grace! But tell me...

Prabhavati paused on the threshold, raising an amused eyebrow.
What impossible riddle do you spin tonight, my learned bird?

Shuka looked deep into her eyes, his ruby beak glinting in the lantern glow:
Go by all means, fair lady! But do you possess the psychological genius of Anangaprabha when a dead fish in the royal kitchen burst into mocking human laughter before King Vikramasena?
A dead fish laughing in a palace?! Why on earth did the fish laugh?!
The Laughing Dead Fish & Royal Terror
"Listen to the greatest palace mystery!" began Shuka. In the imperial city of Ujjayini, a fisherman brought a massive silver dead sea fish on a brass platter to the royal kitchen. As Queen Kamalavati entered with her maidens, an eerie silence fell.

Suddenly, the dead fish opened its mouth and burst into a thunderous, mocking human laugh: **'HAHAHAHA!'**—its silver tail flopping wildly on the brass tray!

The Queen shrieked in horror, dropping her veil, while cooks and royal guards cowered in superstitious dread, convinced a demon had spoken!
The King
Terrified by the omen, King Vikramasena summoned his Prime Minister, issuing a furious decree!
A dead fish laughing at my Queen is an insult to the throne! Explain why the fish laughed within seven days, or you shall be impaled upon an iron stake!

The Prime Minister returned home in tears, unable to fathom how a dead fish could laugh.

His brilliant eighteen-year-old daughter, **Anangaprabha**, stepped forward with radiant confidence.
Weep not, Father! Nature only laughs at human hypocrisy. The fish did not mock the Queen—it laughed at a colossal secret hiding in plain sight within her private chambers!
The Courtroom Trial & The Eight-Foot Wall Jump
The next morning, Anangaprabha stood fearlessly in the royal court before King Vikramasena, proposing a bizarre challenge.
Your Majesty! The dead fish laughed because your inner palace harbours a great deception. Order all the Queen's female maidens to jump over an eight-foot stone wall in the courtyard!

The delicate maidens of the Queen tried to leap over the high stone wall, but stumbled and fell helplessly to the ground.

Then, two of the Queen's tallest 'maidens' stepped forward, hitched up their silk skirts, and effortlessly cleared the eight-foot wall like trained Olympic acrobats!
The Unmasking of the Disguised Lovers
Anangaprabha pointed her finger: *"Guards, seize them!"* The guards ripped off their wigs and silk veils, revealing two muscular young men living in disguise inside the Queen's private quarters!

King Vikramasena gasped in overwhelming realization: *"The dead fish was laughing at MY blind ignorance! While I believed my palace was pure, men in disguise were roaming my inner chambers!"*

The King punished the conspirators and awarded Anangaprabha the Golden Seal of Chief Royal Counselor, celebrating her supreme deduction across the empire!
The Sixth Dawn in Chandravati
Back on the moonlit balcony of Chandravati, Shuka looked down at Prabhavati, whose cheeks were pale with sudden realization.

Prabhavati sat on the bolsters in deep shock: *"Secrets in the dark cannot remain hidden; even the dead fish in the kitchen will laugh at human folly!"*
How easily people deceive themselves behind masks of innocence!

Shuka delivered his sixth decisive riddle:
Now tell me, Prabhavati—is it wiser to trust the flattering masks of midnight lovers, or remember that every disguised secret is eventually stripped naked before the world?

Prabhavati sat in quiet introspection, realizing that the prince's gifts and letters were merely honeyed masks hiding disgrace and ruin.

As the truth sank into her heart, radiant dawn sunlight flooded the Chandravati skyline! The temple conches sounded the morning arati. The sixth night had passed!

Smiling with profound reverence, Prabhavati offered Shuka a bowl of fresh pomegranate seeds, set aside the vial of musk perfume, and returned peacefully to her chamber—her virtue and household saved for the sixth night!
You have opened my eyes to the hollow masks of the world, wise Shuka. Rest peacefully, and tonight I shall return for your seventh tale!
Rest well, noble Mistress. When dusk falls, the seventh enigma shall be revealed!
