The Sixty-Eighth Night: The Honest Potter & The Unbroken Clay Lamp
The Terracotta Lotus Girdle & The Sixty-Eighth Night
On the sixty-eighth twilight, a messenger arrived bearing an exquisite terracotta-and-gold waist girdle set with carved clay lotus seals and river pearls sent to Prabhavati.
See the earthy warm luster of these terracotta lotus seals, fair lady! Tonight's lakeside terrace banquet awaits your steps!

Draped in royal terracotta-and-gold silk with heavy gold zari borders, Prabhavati fastened the girdle around her waist by candlelight, admiring its warm earthy glow.
Tonight, my steps shall guide me to the terrace banquet!

She adjusted her sheer veil and walked with swift, eager steps toward the mansion gate.
Shuka
From his high golden swing, Shuka bowed with dazzling courtly elegance.
May auspicious stars illuminate your footsteps, Queen of Charm! The midnight air is fragrant! But tell me...

Prabhavati paused on the threshold, raising an amused eyebrow.
What fresh elemental enigma do you bring tonight on this sixty-eighth night, O wise Shuka?

Shuka looked deep into her eyes, his ruby beak glinting in the lantern glow:
Go with joy, fair lady! But do you possess the humble, incorruptible resilience of Master Potter Prajapati when an arrogant goldsmith claimed clay is worthless dust compared to gold, challenging him to forge an earthenware lamp that outlasts gold in the royal furnace?
A humble clay lamp outlasting gold in a furnace?! How did baked earth prove stronger and purer than molten gold?!
The Goldsmith
"Hear the masterclass of humble purity outlasting arrogant vanity in the fire of truth!" began Shuka. In the sacred city of ancient Kashi, royal goldsmith Swarnadasa mocked village potter Prajapati, boasting that gold is the only eternal noble substance while clay is cheap dirt.

King Someshwara announced the royal trial: place both the golden lamp and the earthenware lamp inside the white-hot smelting kiln at 1,100 degrees Celsius for three hours!

Humble potter Prajapati molded pure river silt mixed with fine quartz sand on his wheel, shaping a graceful lotus clay lamp (*Mrit-Dipa*).
Earth tempered with patience fears no furnace fire!
The Smelting Furnace Trial
Both lamps were placed side-by-side inside the roaring white-hot imperial ceramic kiln; flames roared at blinding white heat!

Inside the intense fire, the goldsmith’s heavy golden lamp began to soften, warp, and melt into a shapeless liquid puddle of molten sludge!
My precious gold is collapsing!

Meanwhile, Prajapati’s humble clay lamp vitrified in the white heat, fusing into glowing diamond-hard ceramic stone without a single crack!
The Kiln Opens & The Living Flame
After three hours, the kiln doors swung open: the golden lamp was a formless pool of molten sludge on the ceramic floor!

King Someshwara lifted Prajapati’s glowing terracotta lamp with iron tongs: it emerged perfectly shaped, vitrified, ringing like porcelain!

Prajapati poured sweet sesame oil into the cooled lamp and lit the wick: a bright, steady golden flame illuminated the entire hall!
The Master of Ceramic Arts & Royal Honors
King Someshwara and the court bowed before Prajapati, crowning him Grand Imperial Master of Ceramic Arts!

Goldsmith Swarnadasa bowed his head in deep humility, acknowledging the superior eternal resilience of humble baked earth.

The King proclaimed: *"Gold melts and loses its soul in the furnace of ego, but humble, pure earth is vitrified into an indestructible lamp of truth!"*
Humble fidelity outlasts all molten gold!
The Sixty-Eighth Dawn in Chandravati
Back on the moonlit balcony of Chandravati, Shuka concluded the tale with piercing moral clarity under the starlight.

Prabhavati sat on the velvet bolsters, marveling at how flashy wealth melts under life's fire, while humble, pure fidelity is an indestructible lamp that shines through every storm.
How profound! Flashy wealth melts under life's fire, while humble, pure fidelity is an indestructible lamp that shines through every storm!

Shuka delivered his sixty-eighth decisive riddle:
Now tell me, Prabhavati—is it wiser to melt like greedy gold in the fire of desire, or stay anchored as an indestructible clay lamp of Dharma?

Prabhavati sat in serene contemplation, realizing that humble fidelity is her eternal, unbreakable light.

As the lesson illuminated her soul, golden dawn sunlight flooded the Chandravati skyline! The temple conches sounded across the city. The sixty-eighth night had passed!

Smiling with deep reverence, Prabhavati unclasped the terracotta lotus girdle, placed sweet almonds before Shuka's golden swing, and returned peacefully to her bedchamber—her virtue and household protected for the sixty-eighth night!
You have shown me that humble fidelity is the eternal unbroken flame of life, wise Shuka. Rest peacefully, and tonight I shall return for your sixty-ninth tale!
Rest well, noble Mistress. When dusk falls, the sixty-ninth enigma shall awaken!
