The Ruby Necklace & The Twenty-Eighth Night
On the twenty-eighth twilight, a messenger arrived with an exquisite ruby-and-gold necklace sent to Prabhavati.
See these flaming rubies, fair lady! The moonlit banquet awaits your presence!

Draped in royal crimson-and-gold silk with heavy gold zari borders, Prabhavati fastened the ruby necklace by candlelight, admiring its deep crimson glow.
Tonight, my courage is firm! I shall attend the banquet!

She adjusted her sheer veil and walked with swift, eager steps toward the mansion gate.
Shuka
From his high golden swing, Shuka bowed with dazzling courtly elegance.
May auspicious stars illuminate your footsteps, Queen of Charm! The midnight air is fragrant! But tell me...

Prabhavati paused on the threshold, raising an amused eyebrow.
What fresh enigma do you bring tonight on this twenty-eighth night, O wise Shuka?

Shuka looked deep into her eyes, his ruby beak glinting in the lantern glow:
Go with joy, fair lady! But do you possess the razor-sharp investigative wit of Judge Somasharma when a wealthy hoarder died without a will, and greedy relatives claimed his sealed jars contained only spoiled clarified butter?
Sealed jars of rancid butter hiding gold?! How did the judge find thirty thousand gold dinars without smashing every ceramic jar in the city?!
The Miser
"Hear the forensic unmasking of hidden greed!" began Shuka. In ancient Ujjayini, an eccentric wealthy miser named Dhanagupta died suddenly, leaving fifty heavy sealed earthenware jars in his cellar, labeled as rancid buffalo ghee.

Greedy distant relatives attempted to cart the jars away in the dead of night, claiming the estate was worthless and refusing to pay the poor servants and charities named in the merchant’s vows.
These jars hold only rotten butter! The old miser left nothing of value!

Wise Judge Somasharma intercepted the convoy at the city gates with royal guards, noting the abnormal strain on the bullock carts.
The Density Forensic Deduction
In the royal courtroom, Judge Somasharma tested the weight: *"Pure clarified butter is light, but each of these fifty ceramic jars weighs as much as solid iron ore!"*

The sweating relatives protested nervously: *"It is merely dense, hard solidified mountain butter from the Himalayas!"*

Judge Somasharma requested long, red-hot iron roasting rods brought from the palace blacksmith's forge.
Let us test the depth of this butter with the heat of truth!
The Hot Iron Rods & The Clinking Gold
Somasharma thrust a glowing red-hot iron rod straight down through the sealed wax lid into the center of the jar.

**SSSSS!** The glowing iron rod melted the top two inches of rancid butter, striking solid metal below with a resounding, metallic **CLINK!**

Servants poured the warm melted butter into a brass basin, revealing stacks of heavy solid metal beneath!
Thirty Thousand Gold Dinars Uncovered
Beneath the thin butter crust, thousands of pure, glittering gold dinars poured out onto the marble courtroom floor in massive sparkling mountains!

The courtroom erupted in thunderous applause as thirty thousand gold dinars were recovered from the fifty jars, exposing the relatives' fraudulent conspiracy!

Judge Somasharma distributed the fortune to establish public charitable hospitals, pay the loyal servants, and exiled the dishonest relatives in disgrace!
The Twenty-Eighth Dawn in Chandravati
Back on the moonlit balcony of Chandravati, Shuka concluded the tale with piercing moral clarity under the starlight.

Prabhavati sat on the velvet bolsters, marveling at how the heat of forensic inquiry exposed the hoarded gold beneath the rancid butter.
How profound! Greed tries to conceal its hoard beneath rotten masks, but the heat of truth melts every false seal!

Shuka delivered his twenty-eighth decisive riddle:
Now tell me, Prabhavati—is it wiser to chase hidden riches wrapped in deceit, or cherish the open, radiant wealth of a faithful home?

Prabhavati sat in quiet introspection, realizing that true wealth is not hidden gold, but the honour, trust, and sacred integrity of the household.

As the lesson illuminated her soul, golden dawn sunlight flooded the Chandravati skyline! The temple conches sounded across the city. The twenty-eighth night had passed!

Smiling with deep reverence, Prabhavati unclasped the ruby necklace, placed sweet almonds before Shuka's golden swing, and returned peacefully to her bedchamber—her virtue and household protected for the twenty-eighth night!
You have melted the false masks of wealth for me, wise Shuka. Rest peacefully, and tonight I shall return for your twenty-ninth tale!
Rest well, noble Mistress. When dusk falls, the twenty-ninth enigma shall awaken!
