The Twenty-Sixth Statue: Dhwanimati & The Broken Veena String
The Twenty-Sixth Dawn & Dhwanimati
On the twenty-sixth dawn in Dharanagari palace, morning sunlight streamed across the sandstone colonnade onto the thirty-two-step golden throne.

Draped in sacred saffron silks, King Bhoja approached the twenty-sixth step of the golden throne with solemn, reverent stride.

As King Bhoja lifted his right foot toward the twenty-sixth step, the marble dais erupted with brilliant golden-amber and crystal-musical radiance!

The twenty-sixth carved bronze statue—**Dhwanimati (ध्वनिमती)**—opened her glowing golden-amber eyes, laughing with melodious temple-bell chime!
"Halt, King Bhoja! Dare not place your foot upon this twenty-sixth step!"

King Bhoja halted in deep reverence with folded hands, gazing in awe at the living celestial bronze maiden holding a golden Rudra Veena and crystal tuning peg.
"O divine Dhwanimati! What tale of musical soul-discernment and classical acoustic mastery of Emperor Vikramaditya do you bring today?"

Dhwanimati raised the golden Rudra Veena, speaking with sovereign authority:
"Do you possess the musical soul-discernment of Emperor Vikramaditya when a blind ascetic maestro played Raga Meghamalhar on a snapped veena string using his heart's resonance, melting the ego of proud court virtuosos?"
The Imperial Music Conclave & The Proud Virtuoso
During the autumn full-moon festival (*Sharad Purnima*), Emperor Vikramaditya presided over the Grand Classical Music Conclave in the jewel-vaulted audience hall of Ujjayini.

Chief royal court virtuoso Pandit Svaranidhi played dazzling, rapid rhythmic sequences on his diamond-encrusted golden veena, drawing cheers from wealthy courtiers.
"Listen, nobles! Behold the miracle of the swiftest fingers in Aryavarta!"

Vikramaditya listened with quiet discernment: while the technical velocity was flawless, the performance was empty of *Bhava* (spiritual devotion) and soul.

Svaranidhi boasted with haughty pride: *"There is no living musician in Aryavarta who can equal my speed or challenge my sovereign mastery over the seven swaras!"*
"O King! The imperial golden veena belongs solely to my peerless hands!"

Wealthy courtiers applauded in flattery, mistaking the virtuoso's technical acrobatics for the pinnacle of divine music.

At the far end of the grand hall, an aged seventy-year-old blind ascetic musician—Acharya Nada-Brahmam of Kashi—entered calmly, guided by an orphan boy.
The Blind Ascetic Musician Enters
Draped in a simple coarse cotton shawl, Acharya Nada-Brahmam carried an ancient, weathered wooden Rudra Veena with chipped gourds and worn silk strings.

Court nobles whispered and chuckled mockingly at the blind ascetic's patched robes and battered wooden instrument.
"What will this ragged blind beggar play on that battered wooden log in the royal court?!"

Acharya Nada-Brahmam bowed peacefully before the throne: *"Music is not the acrobatics of fingers to win gold, O King; it is the soul's prayer to awaken the divine in all creation!"*
"With your sovereign permission, may I kindle a lamp of the seven swaras before God?"

Vikramaditya rose from his throne in deep reverence, personally escorting the blind saint to the central carpet of honor.
"Welcome, revered master! The royal court of Ujjayini bows to receive your sacred sound!"

With calloused, loving fingers, the blind maestro gently adjusted the weathered wooden tuning pegs, calibrating the ancient strings.

A profound silence enveloped the grand hall as the blind saint turned his inner sight inward, entering deep meditative *Dhyana*.
The Broken String & The Miracle of Resonance
As the blind master's fingers plucked the silk cords, the sublime, nectar-like notes of *Raga Meghamalhar* resonated through the hall like cool heavenly dew!

The entire assembly of nobles, ministers, and even songbirds in the palace balconies sat spellbound in divine stillness.
"Such celestial resonance we have never heard in all our lives!"

At the highest emotional apex of the raga, the primary, highest silk string of the ancient veena suddenly snapped with a sharp ping!

The nobles gasped in dismay, expecting the music to shatter into broken discord and failure.
"Alas! The main string has snapped! What will happen now?!"

Undeterred, Acharya Nada-Brahmam never paused! In deep samadhi, he plucked the remaining strings, supplying the missing notes with pure vocal microtones (*Shrutis*) resonant from his chest!
"Sound resides not in the wire, but in the living spirit! Sa... Re... Ga... Ma... Pa... Dha... Ni..."

By sympathetic acoustic resonance (*Anuranana*), the broken string itself continued to vibrate through the air, producing tones a hundred times sweeter than any unbroken golden instrument!
Blooming Lotuses & Svaranidhi
Under the spell of that divine sound, closed lotus buds in the palace marble fountains blossomed into full radiant bloom, and a fragrant, cool mist showered the sunlit courtyard!

Humbled to the core, Pandit Svaranidhi dropped to his knees in tears of spiritual awakening, placing his diamond-encrusted golden veena at the blind master's feet.
"Forgive my blind pride, revered Guru! I was merely an acrobat of fingers, but you are the living embodiment of divine sound!"

Emperor Vikramaditya stepped down from his throne, bowing his crowned head before the blind maestro in profound humility.
"You possess no mortal sight, revered Acharya, but your soul perceives the heartbeat of the cosmos!"

The Emperor presented Acharya Nada-Brahmam with the imperial gold-inlaid Rudra Veena and ten thousand gold dinars.

Vikramaditya founded the imperial *Nada-Yoga Gurukul* in Ujjayini, appointing the blind master as its lifelong chancellor to teach sacred acoustics to all youths freely.

The grand hall erupted in standing ovation: *"Hail to Nada-Brahma! Hail to Emperor Vikramaditya, Champion of the Soul's Art!"*
Dhwanimati
Back in the grand audience hall of Dharanagari, the living statue Dhwanimati looked directly into King Bhoja's eyes with penetrating golden-amber radiance.

Dhwanimati delivered her decisive challenge:
"Now tell me, King Bhoja—have you ever recognized the divine soul of music in a broken instrument, honoring a blind ascetic above proud court virtuosos and establishing free conservatories for sacred arts? If you possess such acoustic soul-discernment, ascend this step! If not, turn back!"

King Bhoja lowered his head in deep humility and introspection:
"I lack such transcendent acoustic soul-discernment, the capacity to hear the divine spirit beyond broken instruments, and the supreme humility to exalt humble masters above flashy court virtuosos, O celestial maiden. I am not yet worthy of the twenty-sixth step."

King Bhoja stepped down from the twenty-sixth step, decreeing state music gurukuls, monthly pensions for blind and elderly classical artists, and arts trusts established across all districts of Malwa.

Special endowments and classical music conservatories were established throughout the kingdom.

Twilight conches echoed across Dharanagari as Dhwanimati smiled warmly and froze back into silent speculum bronze. **The twenty-sixth day of *Singhasan Battisi* had concluded!**

The remaining six celestial statues gleamed in the evening torchlight, awaiting the dawn of the twenty-seventh test (**Statue 27: Vasumati**).

King Bhoja departed the throne hall in quiet contemplation, inspired by the divine musical soul-discernment and classical acoustic mastery of Emperor Vikramaditya.
"कल प्रातःकाल हम सत्ताईसवीं सीढ़ी पर कदम रखेंगे और सत्ताईसवीं पुतली की अमर गाथा सुनेंगे!"
