The Thirty-First Dawn & Sulakshana
इकतीसवाँ सूर्योदय और सुलक्षणा का प्रबोधन
On the thirty-first dawn in Dharanagari palace, morning sunlight streamed across the sandstone colonnade onto the thirty-two-step golden throne.

Draped in sacred saffron silks, King Bhoja approached the thirty-first step of the golden throne with solemn, reverent stride.

As King Bhoja lifted his right foot toward the thirty-first step, the marble dais erupted with brilliant cosmic-amethyst and celestial-golden radiance!

The thirty-first carved bronze statue—**Sulakshana (सुलक्षणा)**—opened her glowing cosmic-amethyst eyes, laughing with melodious temple-bell chime!
"Halt, King Bhoja! Dare not place your foot upon this thirty-first step!"

King Bhoja halted in deep reverence with folded hands, gazing in awe at the living celestial bronze maiden holding a golden trident and singing ankle-bells.
"O divine Sulakshana! What tale of non-dual wisdom and direct vision of Shiva-Shakti of Emperor Vikramaditya do you bring today?"

Sulakshana raised the golden trident, speaking with sovereign authority:
"Do you possess the fearless non-dual wisdom of Emperor Vikramaditya when he witnessed the midnight cosmic dance of Shiva-Parvati at the Mahakaleshwar cremation grounds, judged their Tandava and Lasya without bias, and received the boon of eternal righteousness?"
The Midnight Pilgrimage to Mahakaleshwar
महाशिवरात्रि की निशीथ वेला और महाकाल का महा-श्मशान
On the sacred night of *Maha Shivaratri* in ancient Ujjayini, stars glittered like celestial diamonds over the temple spires along the Shipra River.

Dressed in simple ascetic white cotton robes, Emperor Vikramaditya walked barefoot through the silent streets toward the sacred Mahakaleshwar shrine.

Leaving all royal guards behind, the Emperor entered the ancient solitary cremation ground (*Maha-Smashana*), where sacred ashes and bilva leaves lay scattered under the midnight stars.

Suddenly, the midnight air hummed with the profound, thunderous vibration of the cosmic *Anahata-Nada* (Om sound)!

The dark cremation ground miraculously transformed into a luminous crystal celestial arena floating amidst galaxies of swirling stars!

In a blinding burst of divine brilliance, Lord Shiva Nataraja and Mother Goddess Parvati manifested in their supreme cosmic forms!
"Om Namah Shivaya!"
The Cosmic Tandava & Lasya Dance
शिव का प्रचण्ड ताण्डव और माँ पार्वती का मनोहर लास्य
Lord Shiva commenced the furious cosmic *Tandava* dance, his Damaru beating thunder as cosmic flames circled his matted locks, shattering universal ego with each cosmic step!
"Dim-dim-dim! The rumble of the Damaru is the primal truth of creation!"

In divine counterpoint, Mother Parvati danced the sublime, graceful *Lasya*, her lotus-soft feet showering golden blossoms and life across creation!
"This Lasya infuses all moving and unmoving beings with nectar, love, and life!"

Heavenly Gandharvas played ethereal veenas in the starry heavens as the cosmic dance reached a fever pitch of infinite speed and rhythm!

The fierce destructive power of Shiva and the tender nurturing grace of Parvati merged into a breathtaking vortex of cosmic equilibrium!

At the ultimate climax of rhythm, both Shiva and Parvati paused simultaneously, their divine gaze meeting in eternal cosmic harmony.

Lord Shiva turned toward the shadows, addressing the mortal Emperor standing in silent samadhi:
"Step forward, King of Ujjayini! You who understand the sacred Natya-Shastra and the truth of the soul—judge our divine dance without fear! Whose dance was superior?"

Emperor Vikramaditya stepped forward, prostrating with full devotion before the lotus feet of the Divine Couple.

Celestial gods in the heavens watched with bated breath: to choose Shiva would offend Shakti; to choose Shakti would offend Shiva!

Vikramaditya spoke with radiant philosophical clarity (*Advaita-Drishti*): *"Lord Shiva is Cosmic Spirit (Purusha)—the eternal unchanging silence beneath all motion and dissolution!"*
"Lord Shiva's Tandava is the fierce truth that burns away cosmic delusion!"

*"And Mother Parvati is Cosmic Energy (Prakriti)—the dynamic grace through which all universes breathe, live, and rejoice!"*
"Mother Parvati's Lasya is the motherly embrace that nourishes all living beings!"

*"To separate Tandava from Lasya is like separating heat from fire or meaning from words! The dance of Shiva without Shakti is destruction; the dance of Shakti without Shiva is illusion! Together, you are the unbroken Cosmic Oneness (*Ardhanarishvara*)!"*
"Both dances are the two eyes of the singular, eternal Supreme Divine!"

Hearing this profound non-dual truth, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati smiled in immense divine delight, their blessings illuminating the cosmos!
The Boon of the Golden Bells & Divine Protection
सुवर्ण-नूपुर का उपहार, शिव का वरदान और निष्काम प्रार्थना
Mother Goddess Parvati unfastened her singing celestial golden ankle-bells (*Suvarna-Nupura*), placing them lovingly into Vikramaditya's hands.

Mother Parvati blessed: *"Whenever these sacred bells chime, truth, prosperity, and righteous justice shall reign unbroken across your realm!"*
"Your people shall never suffer the sorrow of injustice, my noble child!"

Lord Shiva touched the Emperor's brow with his trident: *"Your name shall stand as the eternal benchmark of Dharma for all yugas; this thirty-two-step golden throne shall sing your immortal renown!"*
"Ask, Vikramaditya! Whatever boon you desire for yourself!"

Vikramaditya folded his hands with pure detachment: *"O Lord of Lords! I desire zero personal wealth or pleasures; grant only that my mind never deviates from Dharma, and that my people never suffer injustice or despair!"*
"Dharma is my only breath, and my people are my only family!"

The divine celestial arena dissolved gently into the golden rays of dawn as temple conches echoed across the Shipra River.

Holding the sacred golden ankle-bells, Emperor Vikramaditya returned to his palace, his soul permanently filled with divine tranquility and righteousness.
Sulakshana
सुलक्षणा का निर्णय और राजा भोज का संकोच
Back in the grand audience hall of Dharanagari, the living statue Sulakshana looked directly into King Bhoja's eyes with penetrating cosmic-amethyst radiance.

Sulakshana delivered her decisive challenge:
"Now tell me, King Bhoja—have you ever stood before the Supreme Divine Couple with fearless non-dual wisdom, judging without bias and seeking zero personal boons except the eternal protection of Dharma for your people? If you possess such transcendent spiritual wisdom, ascend this step! If not, turn back!"

King Bhoja lowered his head in deep humility and introspection:
"I do not possess such transcendent non-dual wisdom (*Advaita-Jnana*), fearless spiritual devotion, and selfless prayer, O celestial maiden. I am not yet worthy of the thirty-first step."

King Bhoja stepped down from the thirty-first step, decreeing Advaita Vedanta philosophy chairs, temple music trusts, and sacred festival endowments established across all districts of Malwa.

Special decrees were enacted to support classical philosophers, Vedic scholars, and sacred arts.

Twilight conches echoed across Dharanagari as Sulakshana smiled warmly and froze back into silent speculum bronze. **The thirty-first day of *Singhasan Battisi* had concluded!**

At the summit of the throne, the thirty-second and final living statue—**Rajarupa (राजरूपा / पद्मावती)**—gleamed in the evening lamp light, awaiting the dawn of the grand finale and final judgment of King Bhoja!

King Bhoja departed the throne hall in quiet contemplation, preparing for the thirty-second dawn and the ultimate climax of *Singhasan Battisi*.
"कल प्रातःकाल हम बत्तीसवीं सीढ़ी पर कदम रखेंगे और बत्तीसवीं पुतली—राजरूपा—की अन्तिम अमर गाथा सुनकर इस दिव्य यात्रा का महा-समापन करेंगे!"
